Here is How My GAME Plan is Coming Along...
Last week I posted a GAME plan that I have constructed that will assist me in integrating technology efficiently and effectively into my daily lessons. As a reminder, I made two Goals for myself for the upcoming school year:
Goals:
A. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
B. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision-making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others.
I am thinking ahead to the resources and tools that I will need to help carry out my plan. For my first goal, I will need to find a reliable effective website that connects teachers that want to collaborate online. I will need to locate one that has an option of connecting with students in the United States, and I would like to find someone from another country that reads, writes, and speaks English. As far as the field trips go, there are plenty of resources out there, I just need to take the time to go through all of them to find one that correlates with my curriculum. For my second goal, I will need to collaborate with my colleagues that are on our Technology team at school so that I am sure that I am not duplicating something that they were already planning to present to us. I will also need to collaborate with my Administration to make sure that they find my ideas educationally acceptable for our district. I will also need to go through all of my resources and notes from my classes at Walden to make sure that I have an accurate compilation of resources.
As far as the timeline of my goals, I made a target date for the end of the first nine weeks. I had said that I would have a virtual field trip planned, a teacher contact made, and a professional development session in the works. This is still my goal. I am currently searching the Web for virtual filed trips and for sites that connect teachers with teachers. I am also going through my notes so that I can stay on track with my Powerpoint presentation. If anyone has any resources that would prove helpful, pass it on…

Hi Maureen,
ReplyDeleteI like your set goals and the ways you have stated to carry out your GAME plan. There is no gainsaying in the fact that teachers need to collaborate with each other in their bid to bring out the best in their students because when we exchange ideas, we are able to learn from each other and proffer solutions where the other is struggling thereby making us teachers and to create an environment that is conducive for individualized learning. There are so many teachers out there that are more vast in the use of technology and whose experiences we can tap into through collaboration. You may want to review this site http://www.learningreviews.com/Collaboration-Forums.html , there are some collaborative sites there.
I also like the use of virtual trips. The recent one I took was to a piggery farm when I was teaching the concept of ratio to my third graders. I looked up 'piggery farm video' on Google and I got a useful U-Tube site. This was plotted on our concept map with other learning information, and the children had fun with the learning experience.
I wish you the best in executing your GAME plan.

Damilola,
DeleteThank you for the suggestion on the site. I will be sure to check it out. It is important to collaborate with our peers so that we can use each other as a resource. I find that the biggest challenge is finding the time to collaborate with the peers at my school. It seems as if any of the professional development time that we have is spent on things that are not very useful to real life teaching. I have really enjoyed the collaboration that has been made possible through the courses at Walden.

Maureen,
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you have your goals well laid out for progress to be gained in your GAME plan. I have collaboration with other educators in my GAME plan as well. I will be collaborating within my school, district and in other regions. A few websites that I have looked into are the Educator’s PLN (professional learning network) which has thousands of educators participating in discussions and sharing ideas (http://edupln.ning.com). I also joined Twitter because they have an #edchat every Tuesday at 12pm and 7pm EST on a particular topic. I also like that you are planning on integrating virtual field trips into your class. The few that we have done within my classroom have just expanded my students’ knowledge of a topic more than I could have imagined. Here is a link to some virtual field trips that are available that may be of some use to you: http://www.theteachersguide.com/virtualtours.html. Good luck as you continue.
